The place where Michael Ruffin asks questions, raises issues, makes observations and seeks help in trying to figure it all out so that together we can maybe, just maybe, do something about it.

Citation of On the Jericho Road
My post "In Memory of Southern Seminary" is cited and linked to at the Religion in American History blog in a post entitled "Will the Union Rise Again?" by Paul Harvey, who teaches at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. In his article Harvey offers a brief review of the new history of Southern Baptist Seminary written by Gregory Wills; in the course of that discussion he links to my post as a "personal reflection of a pre-1993 alumnus."

I am very happy to say I studied under Greg Wills. I also recommend his book, "Democratic Religion" as a wonderful source of knowledge on authority and discipline in the Baptist south. And Harvey is correct, Wills is always fair to the opposing positions, despite his strong disagreement with them. Just in passing, I would love to hear a conversation between you and Wills on the legitimacy of the foundation for your second blog.
Thanks, Philip. Perhaps Prof. Wills will read The Jesus Lens and respond--I would welcome that. With the press of responsibility, I will only be able to post something new there about once a week.
I failed to mention above how very happy I am to say I studied under Mike Ruffin as well. I am thankful to say that he (you)is always fair to the opposing positions despite his disagreement with them. And, remains the professor of greatest influence on me, although we have reached different conclusions about some things. That, I think, is the way it is supposed to work.
